The Five Pillars of Islam

Shahada (Faith)

  • Shahadah is the declaration of faith. All that is needed to become Muslim at any point is to say this declaration with sincere beleif.
    • "أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ "
    • "Ash-hadu alla ilaha illa-Allah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasul-Allah"
    • "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"

Salat (Prayer)

  • Praying five times a day at prescribed times: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (nightfall). Learn more about Salah in the Resourses to Learn tab

Zakat (Charity)

  • Zakat is a required charity where Muslims to donate at least 2.5% of their qualifying wealth to those in need as a form of purification.

Sawm (Fasting)

  • Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset, with the aim of achieving self-discipline and God-conciousness.

Hajj (Pilgrimage)

  • Making a pilgrimage to Mecca durring the Hajj season at least once durring a persons lifetime if they are able.
